Magento Commerce - Open source e-commerce platform
E-commerce sites are different from "regular" websites. You need a special kind of website for customers to gain accounts to place and track orders and for your own staff to manage these orders. Fortunately, you don't have to write any of these systems from scratch. Our e-commerce platform of choice is Magento which is a free to download and run system that we can customise for you.
One of the most important features of e-commerce sites is the ability to accept credit card payments and process them in real-time. This is done via a credit card gateway. Many banks offer these as part of a Merchant Account facility. However, applying for these accounts can often take long time and/or be hard to have approved. For this reason, many merchants choose to use other popular gateways such as PayPal and Paymate.
Magento has a number of third party "community" written credit card gateway modules that work with some of the major Australian banks. You can either use these modules (but they may not work 100% without some minor modifications) or have a credit card gateway module written that works with your bank's systems.
